Short answer

Mercor pays companies to license a de-identified copy of their workplace data from Slack, Teams, Gmail, Outlook, Salesforce, GitHub, Drive, Notion and 100+ other tools to AI labs. Its referral listings publish what each kind of company earns, from about $20K to $1.5M. Mercor covers extraction and anonymization costs and pays by wire on delivery, typically 2 to 4 weeks after signing. Most of its listings accept companies outside the US.

  • Payout rises with data volume, the number of tools connected and the depth of history.
  • Eight target industries: legal, healthcare, finance and insurance, professional services, manufacturing, retail and e-commerce, real estate, logistics.
  • No upfront fees. Nothing leaves your systems until you approve the scope.

What Mercor buys

Mercor licenses the records your team creates while working: messages, email, documents, tickets, CRM history and code. You connect accounts rather than exporting files. Mercor's page says the more tools you share, the higher the payout.

How the process works

Mercor describes four steps. Each needs your approval before data moves.

  • Scope: choose which tools and records are included.
  • Connect: link accounts from 100+ supported tools.
  • Process: Mercor's platform extracts and de-identifies the data. Mercor says no lab or vendor sees raw data.
  • Payout: wire transfer on delivery of the anonymized dataset, typically 2 to 4 weeks after signing.

What to check before you connect anything

These points apply to any buyer that connects to your tools, not only Mercor.

  • Payment trigger: Mercor's page says both 'upon delivery' and 'as soon as processing is complete'. Ask which one the agreement uses.
  • Software terms: Slack, Zendesk, Xero and HubSpot developer terms restrict using data pulled through their APIs to train AI. Ask in writing how the connector complies, or deliver native admin exports instead.
  • Customer contracts: content your customers gave you may be limited to serving them. Exclude it if so.
  • Employee messages: exclude HR, payroll, medical and disciplinary material by default.

How Mercor compares

Mercor is the most open large buyer on geography and covers all processing costs. micro1 publishes higher tiers but prioritizes US companies with 30+ staff and English records. See company data buyers compared.

Common questions

Is Mercor legit?

Yes. Mercor is a large AI training data company that supplies frontier labs, and it publishes its company data program at mercor.com/data. As with any buyer, read the agreement, confirm the payment trigger and check how it connects to your tools before granting access.

How much does Mercor pay for company data?

Mercor says compensation depends on data volume, the tools you connect and the depth of your data. Its referral listings show ranges by company type, for example about $50K to $1.2M for a law firm, $100K to $1.5M for a manufacturer and $20K to $250K for a call center.

Does Mercor accept companies outside the US?

Mostly yes. Most of its 24 published company listings say they accept companies anywhere. Some are narrower: accounting firms must be in the US. Mercor also requires that companies are not in a country under US sanctions.

When does Mercor pay?

Mercor says payment is issued by wire when the anonymized dataset is delivered to the buyer, typically within 2 to 4 weeks of the signed agreement. Confirm in the contract which event starts the payment clock.

Do we need to anonymize our data first?

No. Mercor says its platform extracts and de-identifies the data and that it covers those costs. You still choose which tools and records are in scope.
