Why MSP ticket history is valuable
AI developers are building agents that resolve IT problems. They need thousands of worked examples: a user report, the diagnostic steps, the escalation and the resolution. An MSP with ten years in a PSA tool has exactly that, across many environments.
- Tickets with time entries, internal notes and resolution codes.
- Runbooks, scripts and documentation your team maintains.
- Escalations and post-incident reviews.
- Project histories for migrations and rollouts.
The main question: your client contracts
MSP tickets describe clients’ systems, so check what your master service agreements say about confidentiality and use of service records. Typical safeguards: remove client names, hostnames, IP addresses, credentials and user details; license only your own technicians’ notes and resolutions; and exclude regulated clients such as healthcare or finance unless the contract allows it.
Your own runbooks and internal documentation are usually the cleanest asset to start with.
Where the history lives
Most MSPs keep it in a PSA or ticketing tool, a documentation platform and a remote management tool. Note how many years each holds and whether tickets link to the fix that closed them.
