A company with data for investors usually reaches them in one of four ways: a data scout that lists datasets for fund buyers (Neudata, Eagle Alpha), matchmaking events (BattleFin), a data marketplace (Datarade, AWS Data Exchange, Snowflake Marketplace), or a partner that packages and sells the data for you. Neudata and Eagle Alpha list datasets free with no commission. BattleFin sells meeting packages from $12,000. Datarade's free plan takes a 30% commission, and AWS charges a 3% listing fee on public offers. The money is real but concentrated: datasets averaged $1.1 million a year in revenue from investment clients, according to Neudata, and over 90% of buyers keep their subscriptions.
- Data scouts are free to list on but promise no leads; Neudata says listings averaged 2.6 free buyer introductions a year.
- Marketplaces handle billing and delivery but take a cut, from 1.5% on large AWS private offers to 30% on Datarade's free plan.
- Funds buy after due diligence and a trial, so prepare a questionnaire, samples and years of history before listing anywhere.

Data scouts: Neudata and Eagle Alpha
Neudata lists datasets for free with no revenue share or commission, and says 16 of the top 20 discretionary hedge funds and 8 of the top 10 quant funds use it to find data. Its analysts review listings first, and onboarding takes one to four weeks from first contact. It is candid that leads are not guaranteed: listings have historically averaged 2.6 free buyer introductions a year. Paid Premium tiers add event networking.
Eagle Alpha also lists datasets free, with no revenue share and no commercial relationship required. Vendors build a profile with metadata, compliance documents and samples, which is reviewed before publishing. Separately, its sell-your-data service acts as a go-to-market partner that sells the data under its own brand and handles ingestion, compliance, backtesting, contracts and delivery. It says it has delivered 70+ datasets to 100+ financial clients.
Matchmaking events: BattleFin
BattleFin runs Discovery Day events where buyers register their sourcing criteria in advance and an AI matches them with providers for 15-minute pre-screened meetings. Its Miami event held 1,600 one-on-one meetings. Sellers pay for sponsorship: a Data Table with up to 10 chosen meetings starts at $12,000, an exhibit table at $16,000 and speaking slots at $25,000 and $50,000. New providers can enter its Alternative Data Challenge with up to three products.

Data marketplaces: Datarade, AWS Data Exchange and Snowflake
Datarade is an intermediary that is not a party to deals. Its free Commission-only plan takes 30% and allows three listings; Bronze costs $6,000 a year with 20% commission, Silver $12,000 a year with 15%. It onboards registered businesses with the legal right to sell the data, bans unanonymised personal data and usually reviews applications in one to two business days.
AWS Data Exchange charges a 3% listing fee on public offers. Private offers cost 3% under $1 million, 2% from $1 million to under $10 million and 1.5% above that, and renewals 1.5%. Providers must be registered AWS Marketplace sellers qualified by the AWS Data Exchange team, keep data regularly updated and run a support process. Payouts arrive monthly, only after AWS collects from the subscriber.
Snowflake Marketplace makes the provider the seller of record; Snowflake invoices buyers in US dollars on the provider's behalf and pays out 30 days after the buyer pays in full, minus a transaction fee shown in the provider's account. Collection risk stays with the provider. Partners earned more than $100 million in gross bookings on the Marketplace in the first half of 2026, up 277% year on year, Snowflake says.

What funds pay for a dataset
Spending is rising: $2.8 billion in 2025, up 17%, Business Insider reported from Neudata data. Neudata projects the market could reach about $23.1 billion by 2030 if trends persist.
Per dataset, the numbers are smaller and uneven. Datasets averaged $1.1 million a year in revenue from investment clients, and elite datasets earn over $20 million, Neudata reported in February 2025. A typical dataset is used by about 20 investment clients. Buyers subscribed to about 20 datasets a year and spent about $1.6 million, Neudata's 2024 survey found, roughly $80,000 per dataset according to Hedgeweek. Price is the main hurdle for 62% of buyers, and over 90% keep the subscriptions they start.

What to prepare before listing anywhere
- A due-diligence questionnaire: how every record was collected, under what permissions, and how personal data is removed. Fund compliance teams ask before any trial.
- Samples and history: funds backtest before buying, so years of consistent records matter.
- Mapping to companies: price depends on coverage, delivery frequency, history length and mapping to tickers or company IDs, according to Neudata.
- A trial plan: investment firms rarely pay for trials, Neudata says, and Eagle Alpha advises at least three months. See the securities-law lesson from the first SEC case against a data seller.
Which route fits
| If you… | Start with |
|---|---|
| Have a clean, documented dataset and time to answer buyers | A free scout listing (Neudata, Eagle Alpha) |
| Want meetings with many funds in one day and have budget | A matchmaking event (BattleFin) |
| Already deliver data in AWS or Snowflake | That cloud's marketplace |
| Want billing and leads handled for a commission | A marketplace such as Datarade |
| Hold raw records but no data product yet | A partner that packages and sells the data, such as Eagle Alpha's service or Origin |

Next step
Most companies with fund-relevant records have not yet turned them into a product. Origin can help you work out which of your records funds would pay for and which route fits, before you list anywhere. Read selling company data to hedge funds for the compliance basics.
Origin Data Partners works with companies that own data and helps get it bought. We are independent of the services on this page, and a buyer may pay us when a deal closes (how Origin is paid). See what your data is worth.
Common questions
How do I sell data to hedge funds?
List the dataset with a data scout such as Neudata or Eagle Alpha (free), meet buyers at a matchmaking event such as BattleFin (paid), sell through a data marketplace such as Datarade, AWS Data Exchange or Snowflake Marketplace (commission or listing fee), or work with a partner that packages and sells it. Funds expect a due-diligence questionnaire, samples and a trial.
Neudata vs Eagle Alpha: which is better for a new data vendor?
Both list datasets free with no commission. Neudata emphasises reach among large funds and says listings averaged 2.6 free buyer introductions a year. Eagle Alpha also offers a separate service that sells your data under its brand. Many vendors list on both.
How much do hedge funds pay for a dataset?
Datasets averaged $1.1 million a year in revenue from investment clients in Neudata's February 2025 report, with elite datasets above $20 million. Buyers spent about $80,000 per dataset on average, per Hedgeweek, so most of the money goes to a minority of datasets.
Does Datarade charge data sellers?
Yes. The free Commission-only plan takes 30% of deals; Bronze costs $6,000 a year with 20% commission and Silver $12,000 a year with 15%, according to Datarade's provider application page.
What does AWS Data Exchange charge data providers?
A 3% listing fee on public offers. Private offers cost 3% under $1 million, 2% from $1 million to under $10 million, and 1.5% at $10 million or more; renewals are 1.5%. Payouts are monthly after AWS collects from the subscriber.
Does Snowflake Marketplace charge providers?
Yes, a transaction fee is deducted from payouts on paid listings. Snowflake shows the rate inside the provider's account rather than in public documentation, and pays out 30 days after the buyer pays in full.
Is BattleFin worth it for a new data provider?
It suits providers with budget who want many fund meetings quickly: sponsorships start at $12,000 for up to 10 pre-screened one-on-ones. New providers can also enter its Alternative Data Challenge. A free scout listing is the cheaper first step.
